CNC turning is a numerical control (NC) technology for metal cutting. In most cases, turning involves rotating the workpiece at a higher speed than the cutting tool – the cutter – which forms the shape of the workpiece. The machine is controlled during machining by a control programme (CP), which is programmed by a process engineer.
